If you want to take a break from cooking, and prefer to eat where the locals eat, try those local restaurants. Please note that restaurants and bars are plentiful in the Keys, and we cannot possibly list them all. A local phone book as well as brochures are available in our unit.
- Coco's Cantina: Laid-back atmosphere, basic, no-nonsense restaurant and bar. Mile Marker 21.5 on Cudjoe Key, gulf side, right on the highway, easy to find. (305)745-1564
- The Square Grouper: Casual atmosphere with an elegant seafood menu. A little pricier than most on Cudjoe, but well worth it. Mile Marker 22.5 on Cudjoe Key, ocean side, right on the highway, look for the big red roof. (305) 745-8880
- Evie's Subs: A nice sandwich shop with a friendly owner. Mile Marker 22.8 on Cudjoe Key, ocean side. (305) 745-1005
- The Old Road Cafe: Only open during season, I recommend that you call first. (305) 745-8800
- Mangrove Mama's: A classic Keys atmosphere where your drinks might just come in Mason jars and the tables are covered with calico fabrics. Mile Marker 20 on Upper Sugarloaf Key. (305) 745-3030
- Boondocks Grille & Draft House: Great food, relaxed setting, beautiful landscaping, and a mini-golf to boot! (305) 872-4094

Food shopping:
Supermarkets:
- Winn Dixie on Big Pine Key: At Mile Marker 30, going towards Miami, turn left (gulf side) at the traffic light. That road is shaped in a Y form, and you can take either one as the shopping center is between the arms of the Y.
- In Key West, there is a Publix, Winn Dixie, and Albertson. All are off North Roosevelt Boulevard.
Seafood, delicatessen:
- E. Fish: This is like a coop and they buy all their seafood directly from the fishermen. On Cudjoe Key, at Mile Marker 22, gulf side, right on the highway.
- Murray's Food Mart: This is a convenience store with gourmet deli and excellent meats. Mile Marker 24.5 on Summerland Key, ocean side. (305) 745-3534
- Kicking Back: This our local convenience store. It has a deli, some prepared dishes, and a miniature bakery. Prices are reasonable and the owners and staff are very friendly. Mile Marker 21.5 on Cudjoe Key, ocean side. (305) 745-2528
- On-site store: Venture Out Resort has its own store, mostly open in season.
